McCain Cries, 'I See Pork, People!'
Saturday September 27, 2003
"There is so much pork in this bill, I couldn't flip a page without hearing a squeal," said Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona) upon reading the FY04 Defense Appropriations Bill. “Pork” is the D.C. term for unnecessary or wasteful spending of your federal tax dollars, added into the massive spending bills that make up the annual federal budget. Just a few of the slabs of pork McCain found in the Defense spending bill included: $1 million for "Shakespeare in the American Military" and $1.8 million to develop a fuel cell that runs on canola oil. In this press release of Sept. 25, McCain ticks off the pork in both the Defense and Interior spending bills.
