N.O.W. Says Supreme Court Hangs "Shoot Here" Sign on Women

The Supreme Court's decision in the case of Castle Rock v. Gonzales, "hung a 'shoot here' sign around the necks of battered women and their children all across the country," according to National Organization of Women President Kim Gandy, in this press release. The court's 7-2 decision held that police are exempt from legal action, even if their refusal to enforce a valid restraining order results in death. In Castle Rock v. Gonzales, Jessica Gonzales sued the City of Castle Rock, Co. after she repeatedly and unsuccessfully pleaded with Castle Rock police to enforce a restraining order against her abusive husband, who had kidnapped their three young daughters.
