Sen. Frist Backs Stem Cell Research: Reactions

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn), a surgeon himself, rocked the worlds of some of his fellow conservatives on Friday by announcing he would now support legislation providing federal funding for stem cell research.

President Bush has long held that he would veto legislation funding stem cell research and, with Sen. Frist already gaining some momentum as a potential 2008 GOP presidential nominee, Frist's changing mind spurred reaction from both ends of the political spectrum:
