Congress Takes Break – Budget Awaits

Wednesday November 23, 2005
Both the House and Senate are adjourned for the Thanksgiving break. The House returns to work on Dec. 6, while the Senate comes back on Dec. 12. The remainder of the session will – as it typically is these days – be consumed by a mad rush to complete the federal budget process for FY 2006. With the legally mandated Oct. 1 budget deadline well past, the government is operating under a “Continuing Resolution,” a legislative vehicle that allows the essential services of government to operate temporarily without an approved budget.
