Judiciary Committee Recommends Alito Nomination

Tuesday January 24, 2006
On a straight party line 10-8 vote the Senate Judiciary Committee today recommended to the full Senate the nomination of Samuel Alito to become the 110th Supreme Court Justice.

As reported here by CNN, all 10 of the Committee’s Republican members voted for Alito, while all 8 Democratic members voted against him.

While the Senate floor debate on his nomination is promises to be heated, Alito is expected to gain confirmation later this week. If confirmed, Alito will replace retiring Justice Sandra Day O’Connor on the nine-member Supreme Court.
