Bush Backs Immigration Reform Law

As Congress prepares to debate and thousands continue to protest the controversial Securing America's Borders Act, President Bush addressed the nation in support of the sweeping immigration reform legislation.

"To keep the promise of America, we must enforce the laws of America," said President Bush in his radio address. "We must also ensure that immigrants assimilate into our society and learn our customs and values -- including the English language."

Along with toughening immigration laws across the board, the proposed Securing America's Borders Act would increase personnel, equipment and spending necessary to enforce immigration laws, and make it a crime to knowingly hire, recruit, or refer an unauthorized alien.
