Rice Says US Has Made "thousands of mistakes" in Iraq

Friday March 31, 2006
While continuing to defend the decision to depose Saddam Hussein, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice stated today that the Bush Administration had learned lessons from “thousands of mistakes” it had made in its waging of the Iraq War.

Speaking during a tour of northwest England, Rice is quoted in a CNN report as stating, “I know we've made tactical errors, thousands of them, I'm sure.” Rice went on to say that “there are going to be dissertations written about the mistakes of the Bush administration.”

In defending the original decision to invade Iraq, Rice argued that history will show that the “right strategic decision” had been made.

During the prewar debate, Rice, then National Security Adviser, argued forcefully that Saddam Hussein was lying when he stated that Iraq had no chemical, biologic or nuclear weapons of mass destruction.
