Report Finds 1 out of 15 Californians is Illegal Alien

Thursday April 20, 2006
One out of every 15 residents of California and one out of every 25 workers in the entire United States is an illegal alien, according to a report from the Public Policy Institute of California.

Highlighting the importance of the issue of immigration reform on the nation, and California, in particular, the Institute notes that the flow of illegal immigrants into the United States is now greater than the flow of legal immigrants. Yet, states the Institute, the overall fiscal impact of illegal immigrants on the nation’s economy has never been reliably determined.

Other interesting figures from the report show that 60 percent of Californians believe that illegal immigrants should be allowed to apply for work permits, while most credible studies on the subject have found that the impact of illegal immigrants has little impact on the wages and employment of U.S. workers.
