Through Web sites and spam email, the defendants claimed they would pay $10 for each envelope stuffed and mailed, allowing consumers to make $550 to $3,000 per week. After paying $65 to $160 for a “startup package,” the victims found they were simply mailing out more spam promoting the same scheme they had just fallen for. None of the victims received “BIG PAYCHECKS Within TWO WEEKS,” as promised.
The FTC’s action was part of its 2005 “Project Biz Opp Flop” enforcement effort targeting fraudulent work-at-home business opportunities.
If you think you have been the victim of a work-at-home scheme, report it to the FTC by calling toll-free 1-877-FTC-HELP.
