Forest Service Moving Business Services to Albuquerque
"Centralizing the Forest Service's administrative services makes good common sense and aligns with the President's goal of increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of government programs, " said Johanns in a press release. "This change enables the Forest Service to redirect crucial funds from administrative functions back to mission-critical programs."
The newly completed Forest Service's Albuquerque Service Center (ASC) takes up 92,455 square feet on New Mexico real estate in a 3-story building located near Interstate 25, north of downtown Albuquerque. The current 109 member ASC staff now serving the other 39,000 or so Forest Service employees across the nation is predicted to grow over 360 by September 2007.
In fact, the Forest Service says it expects at least 100 new jobs at the Albuquerque center to become available "in the near future." Additional information about the positions, qualifications and on-line applications may be found at the USAJobs Website.

Concerning your 11/2006 article about ASC, what a joke! This move has been nothing but a headache for all of us here at the Forest Service. There is no ownership, no calls returned, no action done, no one held accountable for the myriad of problems we are experiencing. Efficiency? No way. I for one am a firefighter with the FS, employed since 1999 currently work on a National Helitack program and since ASC screwed up my personnel action way back in 9/2007, refused to return my calls, refused to tell me who I was talking to, refused to help me in any way, my pay is now considered a “loan” from the government. I am very nervous and am contacting my Senator before I contact my attorney. (Last Ditch effort!) There is no ownership, it’s a sunk ship. Ask any FS employee what he/she thinks about ASC and you will get an earfull. Thanks for letting me vent, nothing personal, Rotorhead in Montana
