They Really Did Hold an Election and Nobody Came

Sunday April 8, 2007
An incumbent Missouri City, Kansas alderman has failed to win outright reelection by just one vote -- his own. The alderman, according to the Kansas City Star, simply forgot to vote, as did all the other 34 registered voters in Missouri City's 3rd Ward. "I saw them down at the school (the polling place)," the alderman told the Star, "but it never occurred to me that's what they were there for."

Only two of the town's 197 registered voters showed up to cast ballots in the election. "It's pretty small-town stuff down here, man," said the voteless candidate.
