Freedoms of the 4th
Tuesday July 3, 2007
President Bush spoke of the Fourth of July and the date's significance to our freedom in his latest national radio address.
"We remember the spirit of liberty that led men from 13 different colonies to gather in Philadelphia and pen the Declaration of Independence. In that revolutionary document, they proclaimed our independence based on the belief that freedom was God's gift to all mankind," he said.
So far during this week for celebrating freedom:
- Our very symbol of freedom, the American Bald Eagle, capped its amazing comeback by officially being removed from the endangered species list;
- President Bush granted Scooter Libby his freedom by commuting his prison term; and
- The Veterans Administration announced plans to open a 24-hour suicide prevention hotline for veterans, the very people who won and continue to win freedom for us all.
