Labor Day is Different

Unlike most other "Days," Labor Day is not dedicated to wars, departed heroes, parents or religious events. Instead, Labor Day is dedicated to American workers, many of whom will observe their special day by working. In essence, Labor Day observes the growth of the organized labor movement since its beginnings in the late 1880s, and was declared an official national holiday by Congress on June 28, 1894.
