HUD Extends Katrina Rent Payments
Originally set to end on Sept. 1, 2007, the rent payments were extended for an additional 18 months under the government’s new Disaster Housing Assistance Program, administered by HUD for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). HUD took over the program from FEMA on December 1.
To date, about 28,000 victims of Katrina continue to receive government rental housing assistance and case management services, including job training and child care.
