Border Officers Find Pot in Pots

Wednesday December 19, 2007
On December 15, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agent at the Bridge of the Americas in El Paso, Texas, seized 789 pounds of marijuana hidden in, of all places, a shipment of decorative pots bound for the United States.

After CPB's drug sniffing dog "Quixote" tipped officers off, an x-ray scan of the load of pots and vases confirmed the presence of the marijuana.

The "pot-in-pot" bust was the third in a recent rash of what CPB officers call "unusual concealment" discoveries, including 30 pounds of marijuana hidden in holiday candles and 11 pounds of marijuana found spicing up six jars of pickled jalapenos.
