Tax Rebate Delivery Starts Today

Monday April 28, 2008
At least a week ahead of schedule, the IRS today will begin transmitting the much-anticipated 2008 tax rebates directly into the bank accounts of individuals who specified that their rebates be sent via direct deposit. During this week alone, more than 7.7 million Americans are expected to get their tax rebates. Rebate checks to be sent via regular mail will begin going out on May 9, following a schedule based on Social Security numbers.

"I'm pleased that the Treasury Department has worked quickly to get the money into the hands of the American people. Starting Monday, the effects of the stimulus will begin to reach millions of households across our country," said President Bush in announcing the early start of the rebate delivery.

By the end of this summer, more than 130 million households will have received the tax rebates of up to $600 for individuals, $1,200 for couples, plus $300 for each qualifying, dependent child.

Even though April 15 has passed, the IRS advises that there is still time for retirees, disabled veterans and others who normally do not file a tax return to submit a 2007 tax return form to receive a tax rebate.

No. Only DD rebates start going out today. The mailed checks don’t start going out until May 2 as scheduled.

And I’m NOT the IRS.

I did direct deposit and did not see the check yet… when will all the direct deposits be going in? Is there a schedule for this week? Sorry to ask, but it could not have come at a better time - I am really hoping it is there before the house payment is due on Thursday as pathetic as that sounds. Last two digits are 91, but not sure if that matters on this first week w/ direct deposit? BTW I filed in Jan. Thank you!

(5) Robert says:

Holly — the DD does not follow the SS order. Only about 7 million DD rebates will be paid this week. The IRS has not published a schedule for making the DD rebates.

(6) Robert says:

Per the article: During this week alone, more than 7.7 million Americans are expected to get their tax rebates. So no, not all the DD rebates will be paid this week. And, there is no published schedule for DD. So, don’t spend it ’till you see it.

Well I did some research and discovered that all the dd’s are supposed to be in by this Friday. I am assuming that since my ss is later that that means friday for me - BUT it also may mean Wed… as I filed early. We’ll see. They probably should put a revised sched. out. Thanks for your help Robert!

What if you used H & R Block and received your refund on a H & R Block debit card. Does that still constitute direct deposit? Will my rebate be sent to that?

(9) Robert says:

No. 8 — As has been stated soooo many times before — call Block. The IRS makes no mention of these “credit” cards.

I found and article on MSN money that stated everyone who is DD will have their money by May 2nd. Not sure how true that is. I have one friend who filed pretty early and the last two of her social of 10 and she received hers on Tuesday. I filed mine mid Feb and my last two are 52, but havent seen anything in my account yet.

(11) Robert says:

No. 10 — The MSN article is wrong. With a 52, the money should be deposited by May 9, per the IRS’ published schedule.

(12) Butterfly says:

#11…well if thats the case, May 9th is the date I was supposed to get mine prior to them uping the start date to April 28th. Also, the IRS site on that schedule states paper checks will be sent out May 16th, thats false because in other articles on the IRS site, it states now that paper checks will be sent out on the 9th. Looks like the schedule was never updated, it is as it was prior to April 28th.

(13) Robert says:

#12 — The advanced start date applied only to direct deposit. I suggest that ik you want to know the latest schedule, you do what 50,000 other people a day are doing… call the IRS and ask them. They’re the people sending out the money. That’s 1-800-829-1040 Hours of Operation: Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. your local time.

(15) Z says:

i recall reading once before an article on here about this being the first round of checks to grow through. Does that mean that in July or August, there will be another round of them being released or can everyone that is expecting a check feel it safe to assume that they will recieve a check by July?

(16) cheryl says:

Frankly the web site is not accurate because those who used products like tax act and hr block .com and did choose to have our refunds electronically deposited are still getting paper checks …even though it was not a ral why is this?
