FEMA Acts on Mold in Iowa Flooding Mobile Homes
On July 19, FEMA acknowledged that the presence of mold had been confirmed on the doors and door-jams of exterior hot-water heater compartments in a number of the mobile homes sent to Iowa.
While FEMA believes the mold is limited to external parts of the mobile homes, and poses little threat to inside living areas, the agency has contracted with an Iowa-certified mold-remediation company to assess the situation and take immediate action to remedy it. In addition, FEMA has agreed to remove all of the effected mobile homes from Iowa as soon as possible, and to help residents find alternative housing, if they wish.
Iowa flooding victims now living in FEMA-provided units can get more information on the mold or request alternate housing by calling the special FEMA 24-hour Housing Hotline at 1-866-274-4392.
