BLM Auctions Nevada Land for Geothermal Production

Wednesday August 13, 2008
Nevada has the fire in its belly! From the tons of high-level radioactive waste to be buried under Yucca Mountain, to naturally occurring steam trapped beneath 105,211 acres of desolate, federally-controlled lands just auctioned off by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for development of geothermal energy projects.

Made up of 35 parcels, leases on the 105,211 acres brought a record $28.2 million at auction. Under BLM regulations, the State of Nevada will get 50 percent of the revenues from the leases, including bonus bids, rentals, and royalties. The counties where the leases are located will get 25 percent.

About 17 percent of all electricity generated from renewable sources in the U.S. now comes from geothermal sources. More than half the nation's geothermal energy production occurs on federal land, much of it in California and Nevada. Oregon, Utah, Idaho and New Mexico also have developed geothermal activity.

California, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Idaho and New Mexico - the nation’s Wild Horse territories. 28.2 million to the Bureau of Land MISmanagement, yet they can’t afford to feed the Mustangs in captivity!? BLM’s remedy? Euthanize all captive horses as roundups continue through 2008, cost - 1500.00 PER HORSE! The Bush administration’s BLM is nothing more than thieves, liars and criminals. Public lands are being destroyed, the legacy of free running Mustangs face extinction in this, “our” once Land Of The Free. How can I call America my home when I am silenced and fear every branch of the government?

Is this still happening?
I’ve been thinking of buying some land out in Elko county. The piece of land I’m interested in is right up against BLM land.
