House Votes to Restore DC's 2nd Amendment Rights

Sunday September 21, 2008
The U.S. House of Representatives last week passed a bill restoring the Second Amendment right of gun ownership to citizens of the District of Columbia.

Approved by a vote of 266 - 152, the National Capital Security and Safety Act (H.R. 6842), requires the District of Columbia to revise its firearms laws to comply with the Supreme Court's decision in the case of District of Columbia v. Heller, which declared D.C.'s 32-year-old handgun ban an unconstitutional violation of the Second Amendment.

In response to District of Columbia v. Heller, the District of Columbia created a registration process allowing citizens to posses revolvers, but continued to ban most semiautomatic pistols. On Sept. 16, the D.C. city council voted to end the semiautomatic pistol ban, along with a requirement that all guns be stored disassembled or equipped with trigger locks.

It appears doubtful that the Senate will consider the National Capital Security and Safety Act during the remaining months of the session.

MY HUSBAND AND I VERY MUCH DISAPROVE OF THE LAW ABOUT THE GUNS, BECAUSE WHAT IF SOMEONE CAME INTO YOUR HOME AND YOUR GUN WAS DISASSEMBLED OR HAVE A LOCK ON IT,HOW ARE YOU GOING TO PROTECT YOUR FAMILY AND YOURSELF
