Amnesty Without Limits?
As its name suggests, TPS is intended to be granted on a temporary basis, for 6-18 months, with extensions. But 12 years worth of extensions? This is far from the only case of TPS being politically abused at the expense of the American people. Along with the Salvadorans, foreign nationals from six other countries are currently living in the U.S. with TPS and the Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) that come with it. Historically, even after extended TPS finally runs out, most of its beneficiaries remain in the U.S., claiming that returning to their home countries after so many years in the U.S. would amount to a hardship.
Congress created TPS in 1990 to provide "temporary" protection to foreign nationals whose home countries were deemed unsafe because of wars or natural disasters. That lofty purpose has been abused ever since. Congress should now take steps to ensure that TPS is no longer used as a humanitarian-cloaked "end run" around legal immigration and naturalization processes.

You fail to see that the reason TPS is extended is due to Saca always supporting Bush admin in Iraq by always sending over the Battalon cuscatlan in support of this failed policy and occupation.. without TPS, El Salvador sinks. The Salvadoran Economy is being upheld by Salvadorans working in the states and sending money down.
Mr. Longley,
The U.S. hasn’t always been so benevolent. When the ship the St. Louis loaded with Jews was in need of a home the U.S. did not come to the rescue and many of the Jews on this ship were later killed by the Nazi’s. After the Cubans decided that Jewish organizations were not bribing them with enough money, the U.S. could have stepped in and helped out. Instead the Navy, Coast Guard etc. insured no Jew jumped in the ocean to swim to the Miami Beach area.
A very SAD episode in the history of the United States. Of course Religious Bigotry was the name of the game back then. Not that it has completely left this country at this time.
