Mint Putting Collector's Catalog on Diet
The U.S. Mint has announced that it will reduce from 550 to less than 200 the number of coins and medal products offered in the 2009 edition of its popular numismatic product portfolio. The cutback, says the Mint, will allow the portfolio to focus on those products ordered most often by collectors.
"We are responding to the collector community which has spoken loudly and clearly," said United States Mint Director Ed Moy in a press release. "Customers have told us there are just too many products. We agree, and it's time the United States Mint trims down and concentrates on the products our customers love most."
Look for the new "light" version of the collector's catalog to feature the Mint's core products, especially its much-ordered annual United States proof sets. By reducing the number of products offered in the catalog, the Mint hopes to be able to make proof sets available earlier in the calendar year than ever before.
