The US Postal Service (USPS) has announced that many of its most popular online services will be available on web-enabled cell phones. "It's a Post Office on your phone."
Online postal services to be available to users of web-enabled cell phones and other mobile devices from usps.com include Track & Confirm, Post Office locator, and the USPS' most popular online service, Zip Code lookup.
"Any mobile user with web access will be able to log on to the Postal Service mobile site no matter where they are, without having to use a personal computer, " said Robert Bernstock, president, of USPS' Mailing and Shipping Services in a press release. "If they're on the road, they'll be able to use the Post Office locator function to find a Post Office that's close to them. And they'll also be able to track and confirm delivery of their mail or packages using their mobile phone."
The USPS also announced that they would be developing new applications for "smartphones," like the Apple iPhone, BlackBerry and iPod Touch, that will utilize GPS and other advanced features.
But No Mailing While Driving! While the USPS wants people to use their cell phone-based post office services, I'm also very sure they do not want them to do so while driving. I mean...
