Federal Judge Blocks Anti-Telemarketing Do Not Call List

An Oklahoma federal judge has put the anti-telemarketing Do-Not-Call Registry on hold by ruling that the Federal Trade Commission lacked the authority to create the registry. The ruling by U.S. District Judge Lee R. West came in response to a suite filed by the telemarketing industry. So far more than 50 million people have signed up for the list designed to greatly reduce the number of telemarketing calls. In this MSNBC report, Judge West is quoted a saying that the main issue in the case was “whether the FTC had the authority to promulgate a national do-not-call registry.
