EPA Bans Use of Nursing Women in Pesticide Research

Tuesday June 27, 2006
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on Monday issued a final rule banning the use of nursing women in research involving the effects of pesticides on human beings. EPA says the new rule “guarantees nursing women are not involved in human studies and provides protection to nursing infants who may also be exposed.”

EPA issued a similar rule in January 2006, which banned companies from using pregnant women and children in pesticide research.

More information about how the EPA regulates the use of humans in product testing, along with the final rule issued on Monday can be found on the EPA’s Pesticides: Science and Policy page.
