VA Reports Stolen Computer Found

Thursday June 29, 2006
Offering no further details, Veterans Affairs Secretary Jim Nicholson announced today that the laptop computer containing personal information of some 26.5 million veterans and military personnel stolen on May 3 from the home of a VA employee has been recovered.

As reported by CNN, Nicholson told reporters that there have been no reports of identity theft since the theft occurred.

Despite the recovery of the stolen laptop, VA has announced no plans to discontinue its support services for persons affected by the theft.

On June 22, the VA announced that it would provide one year of free credit monitoring to persons whose personal information may have been stolen.

In addition, the VA has established a toll free call center to assist potential victims of the data theft incident in obtaining credit monitoring and learning more about consumer-identity protections. The toll free number is 1-800-FED INFO (1-800-333-4636). The call center is operating from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm (EDT), Monday-Saturday as long as it is needed.

As a disabled combat Veteran I have faith in anything the VA says. The Files where on a porable harddrive and nothing was said about that and they could have easy copied. Show us Vetrans some proof and not just more empty words! God Bless America

Sorry should say I have little faith in anything the VA says!
