About the Supplemental Security Income Benefit Program

Many recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits are disappointed that they are not eligible for an economic stimulus tax rebate check, while many Social Security retirement and disability recipients are. While SSI is an offshoot of Social Security, and payment of SSI benefits is administered by the Social Security Administration, SSI is completely different from the Social Security retirement and disability benefit programs.
