Court Rules on Lethal Injection, Drunk Driving

The U.S. Supreme Court, in the case of Baze v. Rees, ruled 7-2 on Wednesday that lethal injection does not violate the Eighth Amendment’s ban against cruel and unusual punishment, as long as the method used does not pose a "substantial risk" of unnecessary pain or suffering. Also on Wednesday, the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 in the case of Begay v. U.S. that drunk driving cannot be defined as a "violent felony" for purposes of imposing enhanced or extended sentences under the Armed Criminals Act. Read an analysis on SCOTUSBlog.
