American Airlines Fined $7.1 Million by FAA
Saturday August 16, 2008
A Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) inspector told American Airlines that the maintenance on one of its planes had been improperly deferred or delayed. American politely thanked the inspector, then proceeded to use the plane for 10 more passenger-carrying flights. That's the kind of thing in which the FAA finds no humor. For it's deferred maintenance "oversight," along with shortcomings in its employee drug and alcohol testing programs, and deficiencies in its aircraft exit light inspections, American Airlines has been fined a total of $7.1 million by the FAA. Hopefully, payment of the fine will not be deficient or improperly deferred.
