Patterned after the National Transportation Safety Board (the air crash investigators), they took on their first chemical-related accident, an explosion near Reno, NV on January 7, 1998. This March, the Chemical Safety Board's Web site took to the net to highlight their mission -- "To Work In Concert With Industry, Labor, Government and Communities To Help Prevent Accidents."
Since their official creation by amendments to the Clean Air Act (EPA) passed November 15, 1990, the CSB has conducted over two-dozen investigations and reviews of chemical related accidents of the sort that claimed 453 lives between 1987 and 1991. (Chemical Accident Statistics)
