The Nuclear Club
The 44 nations required to ratify the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) are
those identified as possessing some degree of nuclear weapons capability:
Algeria, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bangladesh, Belgium, Brazil, Britain, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Congo, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Iran, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, North Korea, Norway, Pakistan, Peru, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, United States and Vietnam
Fully Ratified the Treaty
To date, 26 of those 44 nations have fully ratified the CTBT:
Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Britain, Bulgaria, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Peru, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
Signed But Not Ratified
Another 15 nations (the US being the first) have signed but not ratified the CTBT:
Algeria, Bangladesh, Chile, China, Colombia, Congo, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Israel, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, United States and Vietnam.
Neither Signed Nor Ratified
Finally, three nations thought to be actively expanding their nuclear arsenal have neither
signed nor ratified the CTBT:
India, Pakistan, North Korea.
