CPSC Issues 2003 Hazardous Recalled Toys List

From 'Woody' dolls to sidewalk chalk, watch out!

By Robert Longley, About.com

From 'Woody' dolls to sidewalk chalk, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued its 2003 list of recently recalled toys and children's products that pose serious safety threats to youngsters. In addition, CPSC has launched a new federal government inter-agency Web site -- www.Recalls.gov -- to provide consumers easier access to all recall announcements.

The new www.Recalls.gov site provides links to all federal agencies with statutory authority to issue recalls, including CPSC, the Food and Drug Administration, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Visitors can easily find information about all federal government recalls -- regardless of the jurisdiction of the agency or the nature of the recall.

Examples of toys recently recalled and potentially hazardous to children for 2003 include:

Woody Dolls sold at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., Disney’s Vero Beach Resort, Magic of Disney and Flight Fantastic shops at Orlando International Airport, and Disney’s Worldport shop at Pointe Orlando. The dolls buttons can come off, posing a choking threat.

"Spit Smatter" Spray Foam - The aerosol cans can forcefully break apart, posing a risk of serious injury.

Fisher Price Scooters (30,000) and Mini Bikes (55,000) - The throttles can stick open, posing a risk of injury to children.

Multicolored Sidewalk Chalk by Anglo Corp., Hong Kong - High levels of lead.

The complete list also includes several models of portable cribs and playpens.
