1:40 pm - U.S. military investigators reported recovering bodies of five of the seven crewmembers killed in the crash of a Marine KC-130 mid-air refueling plane in Pakistan on January 8. Killed in the crash were: [See: Remains of Five U.S. Marines Recovered in Pakistan (Reuters)]

  • Command Pilot: Capt. Matthew W. Bancroft, 29, of Shasta, California; 
  • Co-pilot: Capt. Daniel G. McCollum, 29, of Richland, South Carolina; 
  • Flight Engineer: Gunnery Sgt. Stephen L. Bryson, 35, of Montgomery, Alabama; 
  • Loadmaster: Staff Sgt. Scott N. Germosen, 37, of Queens, New York; 
  • Flight mechanic: Sgt. Nathan P. Hays, 21, of Lincoln, Washington; 
  • Flight navigator: Lance Cpl. Bryan P. Bertrand, 23, of Coos Bay, Oregon;

12:30 pm - Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf announced the banning of five Islamic militant groups and told India it was time to negotiate. In an address to the Pakistani people, Musharraf declared that while he wanted peace, his troops were ready to fight if necessary. "Pakistan's armed forces are fully deployed and prepared to face every challenge. We will shed the last drop of our blood for the defense of the country," he said. 7:15 am - The Israeli army launched a missile attack against a Palestinian naval police dock in the Gaza Strip. Israeli officials said the attack was in response to the Palestinian's foiled attempt to smuggle arms via the Red Sea and for the killing of four Israeli soldiers last week. 6:00 am - The interim-Afghan government said it would need $45 billion over the next 10 years to rebuild the war ravaged country. Meanwhile, U.S. planes conducted the heaviest bombing yet on areas around the eastern Afghan town of Khost, a suspected hideout of die-hard al Qaeda fighters.  [See: U.S. Bombs Target Al Qaeda, Afghans Need Cash]
