4:00 pm - Attorney General Ashcroft announced that American Taliban fighter John Walker Lindh will be tried in U.S. criminal court on four charges of aiding and abetting a terrorist organization. Under the charges, Walker could be sentenced to a maximum of life in prison. [See: Walker charged with murder conspiracy (CNN)]

5:15 am - A cache of weapons including rocket-powered grenades was discovered by U.S. forces near the Kanadahar airport in Afghanistan. The weapons were found in an area about 300 yards from the airport perimeter where a group of seven men was seen Monday night. Unidentified gunmen had fired on the first plane transporting al Qaeda and Taliban detainees from Kandahar to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba last Thursday night.
