Dept. Seeks 5 Suspected al Qaeda Members [Photos] Also Today: Yasser Arafat stated he would continue to press for a Palestinian state in the Middle-East, even if it cost him his life. Earlier in the day, Israeli tanks and military troops virtual occupied the West Bank town of Ramallah, taking positions within yards of Arafat's offices. [See: Arafat to Seek State Even if It Costs Him His Life (Reuters)] 2:30 pm - The Israeli Defense Force confirmed that its troops had taken control of the Palestinian West Bank city of Tulkarem. Israeli officials said the action was taken to find and eliminate terrorist thought to be using the city as a base of operations. [See: Israeli forces take control of Tulkarem (CNN)] 7:00 am - Israeli forces using tanks and small arms took over the West Bank town of Tulkarm killing one Palestinian. Israeli forces met only light resistance from Palestinian gunmen in the attack. [See: One Dead as Israeli Tanks Take Over W. Bank City (Reuters)] 6:00 am - Donor countries meeting in Japan pledged to donate over $3 billion to help rebuild Afghanistan. Donation came from Japan, Saudi Arabia, the United States and other countries. Some $15 billion will be required to stabilize the war-torn country, according to experts.
