Dept. [Details from Reuters] 8:00 pm - After a six-month deployment in the Persian Gulf and Arabian Sea, the USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) returned to its home port in Bremerton Washington. [See: USS Vinson returns from war to warm welcome (CNN)] 7:00 pm - The plane carrying John Walker Lindh, the American captured fighting for the Taliban in Afghanistan landed at Washington-Dulles Airport in Virginia a 6:05 pm EST. Walker was taken from the plane under tight security and will face an arraignment hearing in a federal court in nearby Alexandria, Virginia, at 9:00 am on Thursday. Walker has been charged with conspiracy to kill American nationals in Afghanistan and could face life in prison if convicted. While the Pentagon would not confirm the statement, an unnamed government official told reporters Walker could land in the United States and be handed over to the Department of Justice today.
