7:00 am - A key witness identified British-born militant Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh as a participant in the kidnapping and murder of Wall Street reporter Daniel Pearl in a Karachi. Pakistan court. "Today we have one witness who identified the main suspect Ahmed Omar Sheikh in front of a judge," stated a Karachi police official. [See: Pearl Kidnap Suspect Appears in Karachi Court (Reuters)]

6:30 am - A Saudi peace proposal to Israel was greeted warmly by Israeli Defense Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer, who said that despite the recent outbreaks of violence, efforts were underway to resume Israeli-Palestinian security negotiations. [See: Israeli Defense Chief Hails Saudi Plan (Reuters)]
