Also Today: Hoping to avoid confusion caused by previous non-specific warnings of terrorist attacks, the Office of Homeland Security has announced a color-coded terrorist threat assessment system. 1:30 pm - The Pentagon confirmed that U.S.-led forces were now in a mopping up phase of their attacks against al Qaeda and Taliban holdouts in the Shahi Kot area of eastern Afghanistan. "Much fewer in number, al Qaeda forces are still holed-up in small pockets scattered throughout the area,"  said U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. John Rosa. "I wouldn't characterize it as being over. Not Confirmed: 9:30 am - A senior Afghan general reported that U.S. and Afghan troops had overrun all remaining al Qaeda and Taliban positions in the Shahi Kot area of eastern Afghanistan and that surviving rebel fighters were retreating. "The battle of Shahi Kot is over. A coalition of both Afghan and U.S. forces has taken control of the entire Shahi Kot Valley," General Abdullah Joyenda told reporters. 4:00 am - U.S. bombers resumed their attacks on remaining al Qaeda and Taliban holdouts in the mountains of eastern Afghanistan as hundreds of Afghan ground troops massed near Shahi Kot for what they hope will be a final assault. [See: U.S. Bombs Afghan Caves; Troops Await Advance Order (Reuters)]
