Mamdouh Mahmud Salim, 45, who prosecutors say co-founded al Qaeda with Osama bin Laden has been under indictment in the U.S. since 1998. [See: Alleged al Qaeda figure pleads guilty to assaulting guard (CNN)] 5:00 am - a British military intelligence officer told reporters al Qaeda and Taliban fighters still in Afghanistan were "laying low" and planning more guerrilla attacks against U.S. and coalition forces. [See: British Intelligence Sees Afghan Attacks Looming (Reuters)] 2:00 am - A party of up to 70 British soldiers of the 45 Commando Royal Marines arrived in Kabul, Afghanistan. The troops join an existing force of some 1,700 British commandos, Royal Engineers and other personnel already deployed in that country as part of "Operation Veritas."
