1999 Report for CIA Foresaw Al Qaeda Plane Attack (Reuters) -- In a 1999 CIA-commissioned report titled The Sociology and Psychology of Terrorism, researchers from the Library of Congress predicted a terrorist attack scenario similar to that of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. "Suicide bombers belonging to al Qaeda's martyrdom battalion could crash-land an aircraft packed with high explosives ... into the Pentagon , the headquarters of the Central Intelligence Agency, or the White House," the report says.

Bush: Would Have Tried to Foil Attacks Had I Known (Reuters) -- President Bush stated that had he known the details of terrorist's plans for the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, he would have tried to foil them. "The American people know this about me and my national security team and my administration. Had I known that the enemy was going to use airplanes to kill on that fateful morning, I would have done everything in my power to protect the American people," stated Bush.

Plan Proposed Before Sept. 11 to Hit Al Qaeda (Reuters) -- The White House announced that a presidential order to dismantle Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda terrorist network had been prepared for President Bush shortly before the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The order, however, had not reached the president's desk by Sept. 11.

Mullah Omar Says Bin Laden Still Alive - Paper (Reuters) -- Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar is quoted in an Arab newspaper as claiming Osama bin Laden is still alive. "Sheikh Osama is still alive, praise God, and this is causing anguish to (U.S. President George W.) Bush who promised his people to kill Osama not knowing that lives are in the hands of God," the London-based newspaper Ashraq al-Awsat reported.

Britain Says Some Taliban Killed in New Operation (Reuters) -- British military commanders reported killing "several" Taliban fighters during recent operations in the mountains of southeast Afghanistan.

Pakistan Police Say Grisly Remains May Be Pearl (Reuters) -- Pakistani police reported finding a grave possibly containing the remains of murdered US reporter Daniel Pearl. Samples of the remains have been collected for DNA matching.
