Also Today: In a morning ceremony, President Bush raised the American Flag at Camp David to full staff. Flags at the White House, Capitol Building and all federal buildings were raised to full staff Saturday evening.

  • The number of people listed as missing at the World Trade Center rose to 6,453. The number of persons confirmed dead remained at 252.

8:30 pm - The U.S. Customs Service reported that drug seizures at U.S. border crossing had been greatly reduced since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Customs officials attributed to reduced drug traffic on the higher levels of security imposed due to the attacks. [See: Feds: Drug seizures down following attacks (CNN)]

7:30 pm - The FBI partially lifted the total ban on crop-dusting imposed last week after finding evidence that terrorist may have been planning an attack with chemical or biological weapons using crop-dusters. Under the FBI action taken today, crop-dusting and other agricultural aviation services are allowed except near metropolitan areas. [See: FBI imposes new restrictions on crop-dusters (CNN)]

5:30 pm - Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld state the the United States was positioning military units to fight a war on terrorism that will involve more than just Afghanistan. Noting the Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda operates in more than 60 nations, Rumsfeld told a CBS "Face the Nation" audience that "This is not an Afghan problem. This is a worldwide problem of terrorist networks." [See: U.S. Positioning Forces -Rumsfeld (Reuters)

1:00 pm - Afghanistan's Northern Alliance, in fighting against Taliban forces claimed taking control of two towns and killing 60 Taliban soldiers north of Kabul. Many Afghans still consider the Northern Alliance to be the official government of Afghanistan, although the Taliban drove them out of Kabul in 1994. Leaders of the Northern Alliance have stated they want to join forces with the Unites States in driving out the Taliban and emptying the terrorist camps located in the mountains of Afghanistan. 11:00 am - The U.S. will reveal evidence implicating Osama bin Laden in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, according to Secretary of State Colin Powell. "I think in the near future, we will be able to put out a paper, a document, that will describe quite clearly the evidence that we have linking him to this attack," stated Secretary Powell on NBC's "Meet the Press." 11:00 am - Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld has rejected Taliban claims that they are not aware of the whereabouts of Osama bin Laden. The Taliban had claimed bin Laden was "missing" in Afghanistan. 6:30 am - After lifting economic and trade sanctions against Pakistan and India yesterday, President Bush is expected to issue an executive order today freezing the financial assets in the United States of several specific terrorists and terrorist groups.
