Also Today: The U.S. House of Representatives is expected to vote on a final version of the Airport Security Bill.

5:40 pm - California Governor Gray Davis reported receiving "credible" information indicating that terrorists could target the state's four major suspension bridges, including the Oakland Bay Bridge and Golden Gate Bridge, between Nov. 2 and Nov. 7. "We've received from several different sources threats that the law enforcement community in general believes are credible that between Nov. 2 and Nov. 7 at rush hour there will be an effort to blow up one of those bridges," stated Davis at a press conference. 12:30 pm - At his daily press conference, Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld stated that the U.S. will deploy more special forces ground troops in Afghanistan to assist the Northern Alliance in battling the Taliban, "We are going to be adding people to have a reasonable cluster of American special forces who are able to be in there, serve as liaison, assist with the communication, assist with the targeting," stated Rumsfeld. 11:45 am - White House spokesman Ari Fleischer denied claims the the Taliban were holding several U.S. citizens. [See: White House Denies Taliban Holding Americans (Reuters)]

11:00 am - Preliminary tests for anthrax were reported at four Food and Drug Administration mailrooms in Rockville, Maryland. [See: Anthrax Found at 4 FDA Mailrooms, Early Tests Show (Reuters)]

7:00 am - Taliban ambassador to Pakistan Mullah Abdul Salam Zaeef speaking at a news conference claimed the Taliban had arrested and detained some U.S. citizens in Afghanistan. "We have a few American citizens with us. They have been arrested," stated Zaeef. The identities of the Americans was not disclosed. [See: Taliban Envoy Says Americans Held (Reuters)]

6:30 am - Battle lines between Taliban and Northern Alliance troops were pounded by jets and heavy bombers in an attempt to "demoralize" entrenched Taliban fighters [See: U.S. carpet-bombs Taliban lines (CNN)
