Northern Alliance troops mounted on horseback staged cavalry attacks against Taliban tanks and armored vehicles in the rugged mountains near the key northern Afghanistan town of Mazar-e-Sharif, the Pentagon stated. Marine Gen. Peter Pace, vice chairman of the U.S. military Joint Chiefs of Staff told reporters "This is opposition forces riding horseback into combat against tanks and armored personnel carriers. So these folks are aggressive, they're taking the war to their enemy and ours."
