Detailing Allied Attacks (CNN) 12:00 noon - A Pentagon spokesman discounted reports quoting the Taliban ambassador to Pakistan as saying Osama bin Laden had left Afghanistan for an unknown location. [See: Pentagon doubts bin Laden fled Afghanistan (CNN)] 8:45 am - While Taliban retained political control of Kandahar, tribal leaders of Afghanistan tried to persuade them to lay down their weapons and leave. [See: Go now, Afghans tell Taliban (CNN)] 7:15 am - The Taliban denied a Pakistani newspaper story that they were about to abandon Kandahar. "Kandahar is in complete control of the Taliban, and reports of the withdrawal of the Taliban are baseless,'' Taliban spokesman Maulvi Najibullah told reporters. [See: Taliban Say Still Control Kandahar (Reuters)] 7:00 am - The FBI was investigating an anthrax-laced letter sent to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Sen. Sen. Patrick Leahy, (D-Vermont). According to the FBI, the letter was similar in almost all ways to the anthrax letters sent to Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, (D-South Dakota) NBC anchor Tom Brokaw and the New York Post.
