Also Today: A spokesman for Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar stated that the Taliban would continue to fight for control of Kandahar and other territories in southern Afghanistan. He added that the Taliban have no contact with Osama bin Laden or the al Qaeda network. [Details on CNN]

8:15 pm - Despite an agreement by the Taliban to surrender the town by Sunday, fierce fighting continued around Konduz. According to CNN reporters on the scene, Northern Alliance troops doubt the sincerity of the surrender agreement and fear that hard-line, non-Afghan Taliban fighters will refuse to put down their weapons.
