Detailing Allied Attacks (CNN) 4:00 pm - Northern Alliance leaders told Reuters that Osama bin Laden was now leading the defense of his Tora Bora mountain stronghold. "He, along with around 1,000 of his people ... have now dug themselves into the forests of Spin Ghar after we overran all their bases in Tora Bora. He is here for sure," an Alliance spokesman told Reuters. Continuous U.S. bombing pounded the area through the day. [See: Bin Laden Said to Be Cornered, Fighting Fiercely (Reuters)] 11:00 am - Vice President Dick Cheney revealed that he had seen parts of a video tape in which Osama bin Laden discusses the results of the Sept. 11 attacks on the U.S. with an associate. According to the Washington Post, bin Laden describes the damage to the World Trade Center as being greater than he had expected. [See: Cheney: Tape evidence bin Laden behind terror attacks (CNN)] 9:00 am - Britain's Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon stated that if British forces captured Osama bin Laden, they would turn him over to U.S. forces only on the condition that he not face the death penalty. Britain typically does not allow extradition of prisoners to countries with the death penalty without such an agreement. One spokesman for the Northern Alliance told reporters he believed bin Laden and at about 1,000 of his fighters had entrenched themselves into the Spin Char forest outside of Spin Boldac.
