Also Today: Britain confirmed that it would immediately turn Osama bin Laden over to U.S. military forces if captured by British troops. [Details on CNN]

  • CIA officer Johnny Micheal "Mike" Spann was buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery. Spann died November 25 during an uprising of captured Taliban prisoners at Mazar-e Sharif, Afghanistan.

6:00 pm - President Bush stated that he intended to release the recently captured video tape he says proves Osama bin Laden's responsibility for the September 11 attacks against New York and Washington. "For those who see this tape, they'll realize that not only is he guilty of incredible murder, he has no conscience and no soul, that he represents the worst of civilization," stated President Bush. 2:00 pm - The Pentagon stated that the U.S. had dropped another 15,000 pound "daisy cutter" bombs. The bomb was aimed at a cave in the mountainous Tora Bora area near Jalalabad where Osama bin Laden is thought to be hiding. Navy Rear Adm. John Stufflebeem stated that top al Qaeda leaders, including bin Laden were believed to use the cave targeted today. [See: U.S. Bombs Al Qaeda Cave with 'Daisy Cutter' (Reuters)]

9:00 am - Moving to block Osama bin Laden's escape routes, U.S. Marines drew closer to Kandahar. "What you've seen is the moving of Marines and assets up north...closer to Kandahar to block possible avenues and exits,'' Marine spokesman Captain Stewart Upton stated. "We're continuing to conduct operations around Kandahar in support of opposition forces. We're still looking for al Qaeda, and any Taliban that still have their weapons or don't drop them will die," he added. [See: U.S. Convoy Cutting Escape Routes Around Kandahar (Reuters)]

8:30 am - U.S. Marines occupied the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan, placing the building under American control for the first time since it was abandoned 26 years ago. [See: Marines Take Over U.S. Embassy in Afghan Capital (Reuters)]

8:10 am - Two people, including a child, were killed when an Israeli helicopter attacked a car in the Palestinian West Bank city of Hebron. Israeli Radio reported that the car was carrying a leader of the Islamic Jihad terrorist group that has claimed responsibility for recent suicide bombings in Israel. 5:00 am - Fighters loyal to Osama bin Laden continued to hold off Northern Alliance, U.S. and Afghan tribal forces searching for bin Laden in the Tora Bora region. Britain said it would be willing to lead a peacekeeping force in Afghanistan, while Germany and France offered to participate. U.S. bombing continued at an intense pace in the mountains of Tora Bora.
