Detailing Allied Attacks (CNN) 4:30 pm - U.S. special forces spread across eastern Afghanistan's border with Pakistan in a widening search for Osama bin Laden. Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld stated that Pakistani forces had captured several hundred non-Afghan al Qaeda who had entered Pakistan. [See: Search continues for bin Laden (CNN)] 1:30 pm (updated) - Fourteen people were reported killed in a gun battle between Pakistani soldiers and the captured al Qaeda prisoners they were guarding. The suspected al Qaeda were being moved by bus when they seized their captors' weapons and opened fire. Eight suspected al Qaeda, five Pakistani soldiers and the bus driver were killed. [See: Palestinian Authority Arrests Its Security Men (Reuters)] 7:00 am - CNN reported that leaders of the new interim Afghan government, scheduled to take power this weekend, are working to agree on the formation of an international military peacekeeping force they will accept. [See: Peacekeepers role taking shape (CNN)] 7:00 am - Five people were reported dead in an apparent revolt by al Qaeda prisoners being held near the Afghanistan - Pakistan border. A spokesman for the Pakistani president said two prisoners and three Pakistani guards had been killed.
