Encryption and Virus Protection

Encryption
Many Internet sites are set up to prevent unauthorized people from seeing the information that is sent to or from those sites. These are called "secure" sites and they work with your Web browser's encryption software.

The highest level of encryption is called "128-bit" encryption and if offers the best protection possible whenever you use credit cards or make other financial or confidential transactions over the Internet. Many online banking and trading systems now require you to have a Web browser with "128-bit" encryption installed on your PC.

Microsoft Internet Explorer
Microsoft offers its 128-bit "High Encryption Pack" as a free upgrade to both versions 4 and 5 of Internet Explorer. You can download either version free from the Web site below:

NetScape Navigator
As far as I can tell, NetScape does not offer a 128-bit encryption package as an upgrade. Instead, you'll need to download a full version of Navigator that uses "128-bit Strong Encryption." The product can be downloaded free from the Web site below:

Available for Windows, Macintosh, and other platforms. Be sure to select the products below the "128-bit Strong Encryption" notation.
