"It's your future. Don't leave it blank."

Watch your mailbox! You may get your Census 2000 questionnaire this week.

Forms will be mailed to every one of the 120 million households in America in mid-March. Everyone in the country - citizen or not - should fill out their census form and mail it back by April 1, 2000.

You may even be able to complete your census form online. To find out, visit the Census 2000 Online Web site after you get your questionnaire.

The form most people will get contains 35 questions on four pages and the Census Bureau is stressing the importance of a full and accurate count and encouraging all citizens to participate.

By completing the census questionnaire, people help their local communities obtain federal funding for new facilities like schools, hospitals, roads and highways. Census information is also used by local planners and decision-makers to decide which neighborhoods have the greatest need for new public services and facilities.

About the Privacy of Your Answers
Under federal law, all employees and officials of the Census Bureau are prohibited from sharing a person's personal information with anyone else, including welfare agencies, the Immigration and Naturalization Service, the Internal Revenue Service, courts, police and the military. Violation of this law carries penalties of $5,000 in fines and up to five years in prison. Millions of questionnaires were processed in the 1990 census without a single reported breach of trust.
