"We Shall Overcome"
A Park Service Tour of the Civil Rights Movement

Dateline: 02/19/99

Of all the great Web sites honoring Black History this February, "We Shall Overcome" from the National Park Service ranks among the best.

In words, pictures and memories, "We Shall Overcome" takes you on a tour through 42 sites of historic importance in the Civil Rights movement. While generally perceived as being limited to the Southern states, important events took place in all parts of the nation. From the Moulin Rouge Hotel in Las Vegas to the William Monroe Trotter House in Dorchester, Massachusetts, and along the route of the Selma-to-Montgomery March, the sites on the Itinerary clickable map will inform you about or bring back memories of one of the most challenging periods of America's history.

Along with the tour of historic sites, "We Shall Overcome" features informative articles explaining the Civil Rights movement including The Need for Change, The Players, The Strategy, The Cost, and The Prize.

If you would like to read more about the Civil Rights movement, "We Shall Overcome" offers a convenient Bibliography.
